History of the San Francisco Giants

History of the San Francisco Giants: "The San Francisco Giants are one of the oldest franchises in Major League Baseball. The team has been around since the 1880’s. This means that they have been in existence for nearly 130 years. In the entire time that the team has existed they have played in the National League. The team has been playing in the West Division of the National League since 1969.

The team began playing in New York City. They were known as the New York Giants at that time. In their time in New York the franchise found tremendous success. They managed to win the pennant 17 times in their time in New York. They also won 5 World Championships before moving to San Francisco. The team’s last championship came in 1954. Since moving to San Francisco the team has not managed to ever win a championship. This leaves the Giants as the team with the 3rd longest drought in Major League Baseball since winning a championship. Only the Cubs and the Indians have gone longer since winning a championship."
